Procrastination: Still delaying my important tasks while talking about procrastination
Many of us experience feelings like:
‘I don’t feel like doing it right now. We have some time before a deadline so let’s just have an ice cream first then a quick shopping before working on a project.’
OR
‘You know, by tonight I have one of my important submissions. But meanwhile, I am unable to find a good picture to upload on Instagram. So, can you just help me with choosing a picture quickly? So that, as soon as I upload, I can start working on my project which is to be submitted by tonight?’ProcrastinationProcrastination- Meaning
We deliberately keep important things on hold. We keep ourselves busy doing trivial tasks like updating our FB status, online shopping or putting them off.
This is what we call Procrastination and somehow we all experience it almost daily in our life.
We all often Procrastinate but not for the same reason.
Some Procrastinators are perfectionists and their delaying of tasks can be explained. They know how to flee from tasks that cannot be performed by them with complete perfection.
This is a way, which we call “self-handicapping”.
For example, ‘‘The night before an exam is all I need for studying as I am going to fail anyway.’’
Procrastination- Impact
We do not realise but our delaying of tasks involves a degree of “self-deception”.
The reason behind this is, though we are aware that completing our assignment is a priority, yet we keep ourselves busy in uploading a picture.
For us, leisure comes first rather than completion of the given task, due to endless reasons.
When we are aware that we have to face the consequences of not completing the task. We make excuses, we blame others, we blame situations because this has become our habit.
Yes, we know changing our habits is a challenging task.
So,
Be a gatekeeper of your own thoughts.Wrapping up- Just one question in general“Are you unknowingly slipping into being dishonest to yourself? Are you not taking accountability for your commitments?
Then, you are procrastinating right now, aren’t you?
Don’t worry we are not judging!
We are just saying- “self-care is must”.
